The Camping and Caravanning Club have excellent sites at Ravenglass, Keswick, Kendal and Windermere, well maintained, good facillities, cycle and family friendly and good locations for exploring by bike. I've stayed at all of them and can recommend them. They accept non members too.

The Campsite at Coniston is on the shores of the lake and is called: Coniston Hall Campsite, tel 015394 41223, it's located a short distance from the village of Coniston. It gets very busy at the weekend, mainly with young lads and lasses who tend to be very noisy into the small hours. Its a good base for cycling, I live near by and regularly cycle around the area.
