Recall kettwiesel and lepus 2010/2011

Post by zoxed »

This just popped up on my radar, from the HASE BIKERS Forum:

RECALL KETTWIESEL AND LEPUS

In the course of our ongoing product-evaluation work, we have discovered that some Kettwiesel and Lepus models have unfortunately been sold with drive bolts that, under certain circumstances, could pose a safety risk associated with material failure. In extreme situations, these bolts can fail.

Affected Kettwiesel models: January 2010 - December 2011
Affected Lepus models: February 2010 - December 2011

You can find further information on our website: http://hasebikes.com/files/drive-bolt_recall.pdf

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this recall may cause!

Big ouch potential!
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

There was a seat frame recall for older trikes too... I've got the replacement but have never got round to fitting it. Plus there was a recall on the tandem attachment... Unfortunately I solved that one by selling my older Kett, wish I hadn't :-(

Was that an official recall: if so that it never got to me, although maybe that was because my 2008(?) seat frame did break, and was replaced (without problem).

Also: I missed it from my original post, but can anyone find a link on the Hase page to the Recall notification PDF ?
Should be prominent !!

Unless they emailed all customers ;)

True for the current recall, although people who bought second hand would not be aware (true the the warranty *may* not cover it, but it would be nice that they knew so that they had option of fixing it !)

In the case of my seat failure *maybe* the recall came after mine had been replaced, so they did not contact me ?

As far as I can recall it was my dealer who informed me - I think the problem was that the seat hadn't been braced at a critical point and corrosion could cause sudden failure.
