Loctite and wheel bearings

Post by Stradageek »

The wheel bearings on the rear stub axles of my Kettwiesel should be an interference fit to the hub - I believe.

Unfortunately they are not, the bearings push in under finger pressure and are therefore not a tight fit. The wheel has discernible play and sometimes an occasional clunk as the bearing moves whilst I'm cycling.

I've used some blue Hylomar to dull the clunks and take out some of the play but I'm wondering if Blue Loctite would be a more permanent fix. Has anyone tried this or is able suggest a better (tried and tested) solution?

All help appreciated

Cheers

I have used bearing mount paste in similar applications, mine said Caterpillar on the tube but I believe it is a loctite product.

Hi,
Having used the stuff for years...........IIRC its resistant to oil and grease :?: Its penetrating so easy to use.
So you can apply it after the fastener is tight , on to the thread, is semi permanent, stops threads undoing, but can be undone when needed.

I have also used Chemical Metal epoxy (Plastic padding) for filling gaps in the bearing cup to resin pedals I have on my tourer.

Since then have done several thousand miles with no breakdown of the fix.
