Chain oil

Post by tony.w »

I have been oiling my chain with my motorcycle chain wax for a while but it does look a mess, I am about to replace the chain on the wife’s bike so I want to start from fresh using the right lube. I have quality semi synthetic oil should I use this ??? On her bike it’s a nine speed XT set up.

Oh! No! The dreaded chain lube thread again!

I found that finish line chain lube was OK. I've switched to something else but I'm afraid that I can't remember what sort. White Lightning is supposed to be good, but I've never tried it.

This thread subject is even worse than Campag v Shimano for opinionated answers. Please search in the thread history!

I personally use organic Whale blubber mixed with 3 parts virgin olive oil...and Italian oil is much better than Greek.

Chain oil

I've never contributed to this particular debate before, although I've spent many pleasurable hours reading the related threads in the past.

So just to let you know that for my leisure riding (on road only) I use Finish Line Dry, as sold by all good bike shops I happen to visit. Including Mercian. That will do for me. Have tried the wet but it is certainly more messy and not necessary for my routes/frequencies.

Compliments to the earlier respondents. LOL!

TF2 for me,reapply when the rollers start to shine.Clean the chain (using the MickF patented cleaning method but with White Spirit not Gunk every 600 to 800mls).

PS MickF will be along shortly.

and rubbish like your response doesn't help

obviously no whales could be termed organic now, what with all the poisons that have been dumped at sea - unless you have some jars from pre1940

and whilst italian olive oil may be best for culinary applications, the spanish make a far superior product for mechanical uses

I do think we should pay careful attention to what hamster says: It's well known that hamsters are intimately acquainted with wheels in a way that even a freaky geared cyclist can never appreciate.

Get yourself some Gunk.
Put a little in a can with a tight-fitting lid, and place your chain ..........

No.
I think I get a bit boring.
Or is it because I'm getting old and repeating myself?
