Best map site to display track

What it says, I'd like to upload a GPX track, have others be able to view it without them having to register or log on. I use Strava but non members can't see anything other than the small map. I really like the mapping on cycle.travel but don't think I can upload to it.
Any suggestions?

Hi

Google Maps can do it; here's one that I prepared earlier

You'll need to change your gpx file to kml format (just load your gpx track into BikeHike and save as kml

Use the link to mapping and the instructions here. Click on the My Maps link in step 2, click "Create a new map"; you will need a google account at this stage so either sign in or click "Create an account" (but nobody else needs to) and away you go...

I won't bore you any more, if you get stuck I'll be around later (work beckons)

Regards
tim-b

You need to register but then just upload the GPX, save as Public and anyone can view

Routes in Xpedition look like this to unregistered users:
View of route in Xpedition
View of route in Xpedition

This is one of several I've put there in the past to share with friends who don't want to register etc.
Feel free to peruse my routes to see what they look like, by entering simonineaston in the Keyword text box and then choosing username in the Search By text box... this in itself has been enough to deter one or two doggedly Luddite chums in the past, though!

Try ride with gps and make your route public. You then send the URL to whoever you wnat to see it or than can search for routes in an are without having to register and log on. Example url http://ridewithgps.com/events/The-Tour- ... t-Sportive

I like that better than Xpedition, Pete.
The 2 lines / hoverhelp that appear over the height profile when you mouse-over are great.
I also agree with the OP that the appearance of the maps in cycle.travel is pleasing - best I can think of. We need some sort of cunning dragNdrop environment where we can cherry pick all the features from the websites we like best to make a composite!

The Esri Topo option in ridewithgps is fairly similar to the cycle.travel map but with a bit more detail. The pair are the only online mapping tools I use on my PC now though I do use cycle streets on my phone.

Thanks all for the ideas.
I've had a look at all of them and there's some I'll look at further for my own use. But for this application where I just wanted a simple track on a familiar looking map I went with Google. Thanks tim-b for the instructions.

New Google Maps... who recently removed the once excellent 'save my route' feature, in a notoriously inane example of 'improvements'.

Cheers, Pete - I didn't notice you can switch maps until you pointed that out. Nice.

The best one WAS the excellent BikeHikeUK, but since a few years back, you can't save any of your tracks for future use on-site.

I went over to BikeRouteToaster, but recently they changed the site and it isn't very good at all IMHO. I have many tracks recorded on there as I have referred to them in many threads on here. If I deleted them, some of the threads on here would be kapput.

Rob's Passage for instance.
