Seat Binder Bolt Size for Bob Jackson Audax

Post by Brian73 »

Hi

Does anybody know what length seat binder bolt the Bob Jackson Audax frame takes?

The bracket measures 22mm on the flat sides, the binders are sold in 19mm 22mm 25mm lengths. The seatpost is 27.2mm

Cheers.

Brian.

The binder bolt sizes I use, are measured between shoulders, including the single washer, so for 22mm wide bracket faces a 19mm binder bolt is required. I have 4 different frames with 28.6mm seat tubes and all use 19mm bolts. Hope this helps?

Treat yourself to a Campag bolt - nice quality with better chrome plating. http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... 0000000000
I'm sure Ribble will have some more in soon.

I've always found Campag chrome plating to be terrible.... despite wax or grease application rust still appears! I suspect it's made for the Italian climate

if the ears on the seat lug are exactly parallel then a binder bolt will work OK. But if they are not then a traditional binder bolt may not be reliable; the male threaded part sees a repeated bending load as it is tightened.

It is possible to create a more reliable binder bolt by using two female halves (or one original part plus an allen key brake nut) and then connecting them with a short piece of M6 studding. This way the studding should bend once only and then it won't be so likely to break.

cheers
