Can't fit new inner wire to Shimano grip shifter. Ideas???

Post by CREPELLO »

Right, I have been defeated by a Shimano shifter off a BSO  . Can anyone help? I need to replace the inner cable, but cannot for the life of me see how to thread it into the shifter, or the old wire out of it.

The black cap on top is aesthetic only. There are two tiny screws to open the shifter body up. Am I supposed to undo these to remove and replace the cable? :?

Undo the two screws and don't lose them, the silver cover lifts up and exposes the workings inside and cable anchor. The cable leaves the cable anchor and turns through 90 degrees left/right depending on shifter.

Thanks Redvee for your reply. Undoing the screws does indeed expose the cable anchor/nipple. I suppose I just wanted to check that I wasn't missing something before delving inside. I can't quite understand why Shimano would make a cable change more convoluted on a basic gear shifter than on a higher range model.

Thanks again.

At least the Shimano one has screws, the SRAM MRX ones are snap together, a bit trickier to sort.
