Mavic Aksium, with loose cassette.
I have a pair of Mavic Aksium wheels of uncertain vintage, but think from their condition they are not very old.
The rear has a campag freehub, and I would like to use my 9 speed cassette on it, but when put together it is slightly loose.
I suspect I need a washer of sorts to tighten things up, I am guessing by a couple of mm.
Is there a special washer for this, and does it need to be campag compatible?

IIRC both shimano and campag systems use a cassette spline with a major diameter of 35mm which means that one of these

should work fine

Mavic supply the Shimano hub wheels with a spacer
here's one
Not sure if it's the same for Campagnolo hubs though

Re: Mavic Aksium, with loose cassette.
I've recently bought Aksiums with Campag freehub body. It is important to note that there have possibly been slight design changes to the freehub body - mine came with ED11 freehub body, but I believe there was an ED10. However, there may have in fact been no design changes at all, but just a change in product code with the advent of Campag 11 speed.
In the tech doc, Mr Mavic says use the supplied Campag spacer only when using a Campag 11 cassette, ie. spacer not required if fitting Campag 10 cassette.
I run a Campag 10 speed cassette on my ED11 without the supplied spacer - as instructed - but have detected a smidgen of movement. However, I have found this a better arrangement than with the 11 speed spacer fitted ... but I can't remember what was so objectionable about it.

Actually Brian that's the one I ended up ordering. I am not 100% sure it is compatible with campag, but think it is. Will report back when it arrives.

I suspect that a little tickle with a file may be required, but hey, you might be lucky.

Of course, it is not until you go to the trouble of sourcing a fitting a spacer before you find that it is the freehub body that is a little loose on the hub and not the sprockets.

Re: Mavic Aksium, with loose cassette.
The spacer cost £1.99 so hoping it’s the problem, and will be an easy fix. From what I have read, fitting a 9 speed cassette on this hub defiantly requires a spacer, I just hope it’s the same spacer for shimano and campag, as I have not been able to find any relevant info on that.
I rode 30 odd miles on this wheel a few days ago and it worked perfectly, it wasn’t until I had it on the workstand I noticed the sprockets had a slight wobble. I can’t really understand how I missed it when fitting them, though I have had ksyrium wheels with 9 speed and no spacer that worked perfectly so assumed the current ones would.
But as my daughter is constantly reminding me, you know what happens when you ass u me…

These hubs almost always come with a washer, so a nine speedwould definitely need one

Note that 11 Campag sprockets on an ED11 needs the spacer but use 10 and the spacer is not required. I would think no spacer is required in the case of 9 Campag sprockets. This, I think, can possibly be explained by either the presence or lack of a small amount of dishing on the largest sprocket in the case of some Campag cassettes.

Just as an update...spacer arrived, spacer fitted...no more wobbly sprockets.
