Tight Link Shimano 8 speed chain

I fitted a new shimano chain (+new cassette) less than 100 miles and yesterday it started ghost shifting hald way through a ride. On inspection it had a tight link. This is the 2nd time this has occurred with a new chain. Is this just poor quality control or could there be something I'm doing or not doing that's causing it?

how did you join the chain? was it the joined link?

What do you do, lube-wise?

cheers

Chain join with a connex link
Lubricated with Decathlon own brand chain oil

Was the Connex joining link the tight link or was it elsewhere?

Elsewhere, on both occassions, also didn't show up or cause any problems until bike had been ridden 30-40 miles this time, previous time it waited a while before becoming evident as well

it just might be some weird reaction between the factory chain lube and the stuff you are using, but failing that the chain must have some tight links in it or something.

It is odd that it only manifests itself after a few tens of miles. It does make you wonder if the chain lube you are using is actually any good.... most chains go far longer than that without needing any lube on them other than what was applied in the factory.

cheers

Yes, I have occasionally had stiff links due to riding in the rain or on salted roads with too little oil, allowing a film of rust to start forming. Neglect, basically. I'm not suggesting that you have failed to lube properly, but maybe the lube is not doing its job for some reason. I would try a different lube.
