Saracen tenet 3 2014

Post by Doormat »

Hi, has anyone any experience with a Saracen tenet 3? Or any Saracen bike at that matter?
I have seen one for £450 with shimano tiagra group set which seems like a very good price, to good infact.
I can not find any reviews anywhere about the bikes so it's making me cautious to spend the bucks.
I was going to go for a specialised Allez sport compact for £470 with shimano sora group set, as I here the specialised bikes are of good quality road bikes.
Anyone got any advice?

Review of the 2013 Tenet 2: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/gear/cate ... -14-47864/

Saracen were a big and reputable name in British mountain biking in the 80s and 90s. They also made some good hybrids and a well liked tourer. They had a horrendous fall from grace after being sold and starting to produce cheap rubbish (£99 special stuff  ). They were bough by Madison a few years ago and started catering to serious riders again. Their newer mountain bikes seem to be getting good press. I've no direct experience of their road bikes though I am afraid to say. At this price point I would hope it would be fit for purpose! I wouldn't be put off by the name on the frame (different brands will often be made in the same far-eastern factories), I'd be taking the likely contenders out for a test ride and seeing which I preferred.

Thanks! Yeah I've never heard of the brand.
I'll be buying it online so I doubt I'll get a test ride.

Saracen basically invented the mountain bike in the UK, their history is quite something. But as bicycler said, their fall from grace was monumental.

Recent offerings have reviewed really well from all that I've seen, so definitely worth a test ride.

You'll be hard pushed to find a 'bad' bike these days: the trick is figuring out what you want it to do and then matching the bike to your hopes and expectations. Good luck, bike shopping is crazy fun!

If you aren't confident in exactly what you need I really wouldn't buy online - go see a bike shop and bathe in their accumulated knowledge. If it costs you a bit extra to get the correct bike first time, it's still a lot cheaper than getting it on your third, or fifth, or twelfth guess! [emoji1]
