Significant?
That's the point/question I'm making.
Here's a screenshot of my spreadsheet. 8am and 8pm each day. Missing ones were when we were away for a couple of nights.
Look at the variations.

I doubt it.
When I've experimented at the health centre, I can swap arms, go back to the first arm and back again until I get bored. Each and every reading is different.

It therefore means that if I stuck one arm into the health centre machine, and used my monitor on the other arm, it would tell me that there was a difference. I could swap over, and there would still be a difference. Not just L for R, but from one trial to the next.

Not one single BP reading that I have ever done/had taken, is the same as any other reading. I cannot understand how someone can state I have high BP when later, I don't ............. but later, I do, then I don't.

Hi,
Paulatic, you are very normal and will live a long time........age 35?

My BP has been all over the place recently since my Flu Jab.
Lack luster
Feel ill
Ill before bed
Headache
Minute blood from nose this morning

But BP is ok again even if I have a headache.

Do BP twice a day sitting for five minutes , not after exercise, going to the loo, eating, laughing etc.........................................

My partners BP goes sky hi just thinking of going some where but is good and low for the rest of time.

When you feel unwell for no reason
Get nose bleeds unexpected
Head is tight or painfull
etc etc, then see your GP otherwise .........just make yourself a cup of tea/coffee and relax after your bike ride :)

P.S.
Mick F-
That graph is very good for some one your age...........your normal, suggest stress on visits to medical centres when it jumps up......

I wont post my last week you will have a heart attack

Hi,
I was diagnosed with hypertension in my thirties.
Didn't drink
Didn't smoke
Wasn't overweight
Etc, etc..............

Had a abdominal scan and saw a professor in such, she said 99% of cases had no reason for hypertension.
Only note was a scar on my kidney which could of happened at any time, no significance.

I guess there are not many here who have hypertension (that is you BP is over 145 / 95 all the time and you are on medication) and are Not -

Drinkers
Overweight
Smoke
Highly stressed?

Are there :?:

Sorry
Confused you with someone else with similar name.

You've perfect BP at that age, are you med free for BP?

We need a different approach to going to GP and getting your BP measured, an app maybe :)

Only thing I'm prescribed is Vit D.
I got my sons to ask for a test and they were deficient also. I lost a lot of weight and because I worked outside the Drs didn't look at my Vit D levels until they were stumped.

they are all normal Mick. Just put the machine away and forget about it unless you get any symptoms would be my advice.

Utterly agree.
No symptoms at all.

However, I've stopped taking my statins and the medical profession are on to me and want to monitor my BP because they think I'm at risk of a heart attack. I want to prove them wrong.

I'm amassing info, and I will be demanding a scan to show that my heart and blood vessels are in good shape despite having a huge cholesterol problem that is now uncontrolled by statins.

I am just amazed about how my BP changes by the minute. If it does change by the minute, how can anyone say what my BP actually is?
It's high ................ then it's low.

BTW, just done my 8pm reading.
108 over 65.

Sadly, no. Not today either and it'll be Monday before I'm free to ride.

Been busy cashing up the Poppy Appeal money, shopping, housework, and I'm sitting down with a cuppa after sweeping the chimney and cleaning up afterwards! Next job is to clean out the parrot cage, then it's dust and vacc, and by then it'll be time for lunch. :D

Later today sister-in-law and husband are coming to stay, then Saturday we're all off in to Plymouth by train for the day. Sunday it's Sunday lunch at the local pub and drinks back here afterwards.

Such excitement and fun I'm having.
I'll have to keep an eye on my BP.

Mick,
high BP and Cholesterol are both risk factors for heart disease. However they are not directly related. The cholesterol issue is that your coronary arteries may get clogged up, or more likely a chunk of plaque will break off and cause a blockage. The former furring up will give lots of notice that something is wrong, with angina symptoms. A bit breaking off causing a sudden blockage won't give any warning and you'll end up in ambulance like I did!

High blood pressure puts a strain on your heart by making it work harder. Obviously if your pipes get clogged up then this will increase pressure. But if you have always had high BP then it may not be due to clogged arteries.

I stopped taking statins for a year because of muscular problems and it didn't affect my cholesterol levels too much. It isn't particularly high anyway. However my doctor said that I should take them, as not only do they lower your cholesterol levels, they help to stop bits of plaque breaking off. So he put me on a low dose of another statin. I don't get the muscular side effects now, but when I went for my checkup this year my cholesterol levels hadn't reduced from last year when I wasn't taking them.

Thread resurrection alert.

I gave up using my machine, and just used the health centre DIY unit.
Varying results over the last few months. Some high, some not so high, but all above what is "normal".
I've been on a variety of BP medication ................. subject of another thread.
Doc checked me out the other day. 160 over 100

I dug out my machine and fitted new batteries because I really feel relaxed at home ................and not relaxed at the health centre.
I decided to see what it read this evening as I'm very laid back and relaxed right now. :D
113 over 77

Now, my question:
How do I check my unit out?
How do I know it's in the right ball-park?
Is there a good (maybe Heath Robinson?) method of checking the calibration?

If mine IS in the right ball-park, I don't have a BP problem at all. Mind you, I never personally actually thought I had, it's just that the health centre and the hospital could very well be freaking me out and giving me high results.

That is a bit puzzling 160/100 is quite high but 113/77 is low. I just spoke to my nurse and she thought it "unlikely that those 2 readings would be from the same person". Maybe it is worth checking your machine as you suggest. There is "white coat" high BP, if you get a bit anxious at the surgery. The only accurate machine is the old fashioned one with the Mercury. The specific gravity of Mercury doesn't tend to change! The doc always does mine with the old apparatus and it isn't much different to my Omron machine.

Perhaps the local pharmacy would check it out against one of their posh ones?

As to Heath Robinson, you could of course test it out with a water gauge. To would need a 2.176m U tube to test up to 160mm Hg of course :D
