CTC Shop and Wiggle

Post by Mick F »

It seems Wiggle no longer support CTC Shop.

I just tried to log in to buy something, and was asked during the process for my CTC membership number. It refused it, so I entered the "live chat" system to ask why.

The conversation went thus:
Hi, I'm Matt G
Hi, I'm Mick
How can we help you today?
I'm a member of CTC but your database doesn't recognise me. I've been using CTC Shop via Wiggle for years and never had a problem before.
Unfortunately, we no longer take the CTC membership I am afraid.
How do I check in then? Your website asks me for my CTC membership number.
Sorry, but this should have been removed from our site, I can only apologise for this.
OK, I'll come in via Wiggle then! Am I correct in saying that Wiggle is no longer CTC Shop?
That is correct.
OK, thanks. Regards, Mick.

It's been removed from the member benefits list for some time. The CTC seem reluctant to announce that this service is no longer available. Perhaps a mail to them.
Does appear you're now limited to the Cornish Tractor Shop http://www.cornishtractorclub.org.uk/me ... rchandise/

Why has this not been publicised?
Why did it take me to stumble upon this and have to ask?
Surely I'm not the first to find out by trying to buy something via CTC Shop in Wiggle?

I'm not best pleased.

It looks to be a bit more than that; Sustrans refers to "our partnership with Wiggle."

Wiggle’s partnership with us kicks off with the launch of Wiggle Legal, a new service created by Wiggle with the aim of supporting UK cyclists that are involved in accidents (currently around 20,000 per year according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), with compensation claims and advice to help them back on their bikes as fast as possible. Profits that Wiggle generates from successful claims will be donated to Sustrans.

Anybody remember a thread called something like "CTC: is it vulnerable?"

As Ken W might have said, "It is now."

Whatever next? Third party insurance?

It's because it's another example of CTC screwing up their internet services. They could point their domain ctcshop.org.uk to a holding page on the main website (maybe the current member benefits list?) instead of letting it keep displaying a non-functioning version of Sustrans-partner wiggle.

But hey, they won't even make http://ctc.org.uk/ redirect to their website (and they're using what I regard as a poor service provider), so what hope they direct ctcshop somewhere useful?

I don't know if they read their e-mails but they don't reply. Helpful ones I sent in the past have been completely ignored so I suspect they don't even bother reading them - so I would not bother wasting your time.

I usually get replies from that particular officer... not always happy ones, though!

The last thing I ordered was in March. Since then, I've browsed CTC Shop regularly, and even only yesterday it was up and running. There was nothing on the website to say that it was defunct. No reason to expect that all was not as it should be. Therefore to all intents and purposes, CTC Shop was still there and open for orders.

It wasn't until I actually tried to order that I found out it wasn't open for business.

It's STILL there even now. Nothing to say that it isn't.

I got a reply from my contact saying he's passed it to their recently-returned webmaster. I've not seen a reply from the webmaster yet.

Is this all part of the shambles that ended up with them letting CJ go?

The second reply from the webmaster says that www.ctcshop.org.uk now redirects to the list of member benefits and sends many thanks for your help in getting that loose end fixed.

IIRC, part of the rationale for having no technical officer was that it freed up £££ to take on a communications officer (or two?)

In a "hit the ground running" environment, when everybody is "passionate" about cycling (or whatever they are currently employed to be passionate about) perhaps they need a while to get up to speed.

Or perhaps informing the membership what's happening isn't part of a communication officer's job description. (More to do with spinning perhaps.)
