Best Bike - On and Off Road Mix

Hi, i have recently got back in to and thoroughly enjoy cycling again - i have a Claud Butler urban 300 - which i enjoy riding - but ive found myself enjoying both on and off road - so far the claud butler has coped with very long rides on road and very rough off road
Can anyone suggest a good bike that would be both ideal for both on and off road use - without having to change wheels/tyres regularly
Thanks

Hi Stan
There are probably as many answers to your question as members of the CTC!!
In my experience the type of tyres is really only one of the factors.Back in my youth(the 60s) I would use the same bike and equipment for doing everything. On road day trips ,YHA touring, off road rough stuff(as it was and still is called by some). The 27 and 1.25 inch tyres would take me everywhere.Of course therewas no other choice but I never had major problems
However I am not such an old @#rt to resist a more modern approach and now use a Cannondale F600 with 1.95 tyres. My daily commute consists of mostly road and a little bit of off road.I like these size of tyres which are semi slick and give me confort even on the bad road surface conditions I encounter.
What I am saying is that unless you are planning to do XC or downhill jumps you could use a reasonably good bike for almost anything.

Thanks Nurgles
You put my mind at rest - i did think my current bike was ok, and copes with most terrain, rough and road
So, i will simply keep an eye on some good tyres then, i think - until this bike wears out anyway.
This bike is better than any I had when i was younger anyway hehe
Thanks very much
Stan
