Refreshed and energised
Refreshed and energised
I just wondered whether anyone had ever felt refreshed and energised after driving in town - or are Toyota right and it's only possible in a Yaris?

I'm not suggesting BTW that Toyota have come up with the most mind-bogglingly unbelievable pile of twaddle that I have ever read. Because to suggest that would be to suggest that their copy writers know and believe motorists, as a group, are the most gullible idiots in society.

Yeah, but we already understand that practically all car adverts are twaddle so why take any notice of them whatsoever. There are plenty of other things that matter much much more than that.

Reuse, recycle, to save the planet.... Auctions, Dump, Charity Shops, Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, Boots. Old House, and a Banger ..... And cycle as often as you can...... Every little helps!

Nah, the collective cycle industry award goes to those who have ingrained the idea in the minds of a generation of middle aged men that the small weight savings in lighter equipment (measured in grammes) are much more important than the extra weight (measured in stone) carried on one's person.

I'm a driver, and happy to do so. I don't commute, I don't go to high powered meetings and I'm never in a hurry, so driving doesn't stress me.
Being refreshed and engergised comes from a state of mind, not a particular activity.
If you are stressed by driving in a town, there isn't a car available that will refresh and energise you.
If you are stressed by CYCLING in a town, there isn't a bike available that will refresh and energise you either.

Alyrpal is also right - most advertising is twaddle and car adverts probably the worst. But I'm always struck by just how far from reality car adverts are. The cars themselves are actually amazing but what they promise doesn't exist anymore. That's not true of say holidays, computers or food or whatever.

Re: Refreshed and energised
Without car adverts non BBC TV channels would probably collapse. Its says it that motor manufacturers cant seem to identify any unique selling points in their 'me too' products that convince folk to buy their cars in preference to others. Instead they peddle meaningless twaddle. It must work somehow, perhaps someone skilled in twaddle can enlighten us?
What about economy, comfort, performance, safety and value for money?

Actually on those measures modern cars come out quite well. But instead we get fantasy open roads and weird graphics. May be the advertisers really are getting it wrong.

That's just plain boring.
The buyers want to be told twaddle,so they can convince themselves to part with umpteen thousand £££'s to sit in jams all day whilst others in lesser cars look on in envy, and whilst they themselves look on the next car(insert your consumer product of choice) up the ladder to nowhere.
The ego is massaged in strange ways by market men who pull the strings of the unsuspecting consumers,it was ever thus, only these days it seems the ego is all to willing to be massaged.

Same goes with bike ads in magazines. Always glossy images which if you buy into the thousands of pounds and get one you'll just look like a MAMIL in Lycra unless you really are a proper competitive cyclist of course. Ads of all kinds sell a dream according to their target audience. The OP is obviously not the target audience for the auris.
PS I've driven cars which have been easier or more relaxing to drive, so I can understand how to a small extent one car is more likely to get you somewhere less tired than another. More refreshed if you like. One car I've been a passenger in that's the complete opposite is the citreon c1. A nasty car to drive and be a passenger in. It's got plenty of space to fit my 2m frame in the front but it's like a go kart and leaves me aching all over even after only half an hour. It's also available as a Peugeot and a Toyota too. AVOID at all costs.

But how did they know? And they might at least have tried e.g.
"So you want to give Jeremy Corbyn a lift - it's the right car and with a door pocket to safely stow your Guardian. What's more, there's space for your new folding bicycle in the boot - not that it will stay there long! And the Yaris can be left outside your house for weeks on end without being used and without being noticed - it's that boring. The interior upholstery, unlike that of other cars, doesn't repel Marx (sorry, that's our little joke at Toyota!). And you'll be quickly cycling to work avoiding all those traffic jams knowing that the Yaris will be doing zero miles to zero gallons - tremendous economy for this size of car. And best of all, it comes in two fetching colours - Red and Green: the hardest thing will be choosing which to go for (after you've been talking to Jeremy)!"

Re: Refreshed and energised
Some strange impulse had me googling original ads for Morris Minors. A lot of the usual copywriters' guff, of course, but reflecting how different life was in those days, mainly with dad in the driving seat but much of it emphasising the theme of the big small car. I spotted one, which without any hint of irony had the headline, 0-60 in 28 seconds.
That really was living on the edge.

Sounds like my h reg Fiesta in the end.
Re: Refreshed and energised
We have a Toyota hybrid (Auris) and it genuinely is very easy and relaxing to drive in heavy traffic. We planned to buy another diesel, but, having tried the hybrid, changed our minds. In traffic queues, the car runs mostly on the electric motor and moves smoothly and silently without all the effort of clutch, gears etc. It delivers 50-70 mpg (of petrol) depending on weather and speed etc. and has zero VED. Much lower NOX etc. and particulate emissions than diesel. Would not even consider another petrol/diesel only car - but would think about rechargeable hybrid, electric, fuel cell in future. Some may consider it boring, but I regard a car as transport rather than any kind of status symbol so hybrid is fine for us.
