Seam grip is available in packs with 2 small tubes rather than one large one, which will at least offer the chance of having some un-solidified glue when you get your second puncture in the mat.

Glue is also material specific, and whilst PVC glue may work well on Classic Ortliebs*, and puncture kit glue on inner tubes, the chance of a patch stuck on with whatever glue is available staying stuck for the long term is relatively low. If you are away on tour, you've no choice, but if the puncture was on the Saturday night of a weekend trip, it's probably better to take the mat home and get and use the proper stuff.

* My Front Roller Classics have patches from my caving oversuit (PVC) repair kit that have been stuck on for something like 18 years, with no sign of coming unstuck or lifting at the edges. Having said that, if you have the "Plus" Ortlieb panniers, I reckon that Seam Grip would be a better substitute than a PVC repair kit.

We've used it to fill pin hole damage in Thermarests and groundsheets, as well as sealing seams on tents and kiddie trailers. We used it to fix small areas of damage on both flysheets and inner tents netting. Useful to have a small tube on tour but make sure you get fast drying seam sealer. I think most will now go off in 2 hours but some of the older stuff we bought needed 24 hours.

Seam sealer does not work with Ortlieb bags. You need the Ortlieb repair set for that (or the right glue and patches from other sources).

Hiya, re: the ortlieb repair - I had some glue and patch material from a vinyl car roof and that has been a permanent fix to my ortlieb for about a year still watertight (couldn't resist just tested it again) :D Just in case someone has some lying around!

Further to this - tube patches will work on Ortlieb but may not be robust enough for bigger repairs. However I noticed that Decathlon now do repair sets which may well be suitable as they can be used on the 'air frame' tents.
Convention? what's that then?

Some handy tips here. I have been given a PVC football to repair by my grandson. It has a tiny pin prick probably from a bramble that deflates it over a couple of days. I found the hole in the usual way with a bucket of water. I think I might try to squirt some pva glue in through the air pressurising hole using a syringe from an injet refill kit. Direct it over the hole and then inflate. I will update you on progress. Pva glue may not be perfect but is in my cupboard. Not worth spending out for anything else.

Not a field repair but this has worked well for me.
Used to repaired a tricky 10mm slit 15mm from and parallel to an edge of my thermarest.
Initially I used silicon seam seal with a silnylon patch but this peeled after a month or so of use. The silicon residue was then a pig to get off!
Then used 'Stormsure Tough Tape' but it struggled to stay put.
What worked:
Put on new Tough Tape + 25mm all round, with rounded corners.
Heat the clothes iron to 3 dots.
Peel the backing paper from a large returns label and lay the peeled side down over the repair.
Iron for 10 sec, or so, through the paper.
Peel off the paper
Repeat with one more layer of Tough Tape.
(If It's not your iron clean it and put it back where you got it. )

Hope this helps someone.
