Who will probably advise me to give up cycling at my age ! ! Obviously not been to your local GP with a possible sports related issue recently...... Yes, that's what mine said . . . Sorry ex GP said.

Don't second-guess the medics. If they advise you to give up cycling, make clear that's not an option (and contrary to NICE advice anyway), and if they won't help, find another GP.

Fish oil is greatly beneficial for joint health. Good luck and don't hesitate to take some time to rest and recover. The bike will be there waiting for you.
